How do you like our new look?
Many thanks to Tina Sanders from ASA Group for our new website. Tina has been the webmaster, web designer and technical problem solver for NYOC Dog Training since 2012. We continue to appreciate her skill, her patience and her enthusiasm.
Most of the photos on the website belong to NYOC members, people who have attended our classes, participated in our obedience and rally trials or enjoyed one of the performances by our Demonstration Team.
We hope to see you and your dog at some of our events in the future!
Every year our members (along with their dogs!) compete and earn titles. In 2017, over 20 members earned countless titles. Check out the full list on the Titles Earned page.
Congratulations to them all.
New training sessions start Tuesday March 20th and Thursday March 22nd.
Please Note: All Thursday night classes for the spring session are now full.

Margaret Schneider will be speaking to the club about “Do Dogs Really Keep Us Healthy?” Margaret is a PhD in Psychology at the University of Toronto. She has studied this topic, and has written papers about similar topics.
The science is divided on this topic in spite of what many of us feel! Come and hear what the research says.

NYOC Obedience and Rally Trials and CGN Test Sunday June 17,2018
A quick reminder that the NYOC Rally and Obedience trials and the correction match are on the June 15-17 weekend. Check our previous post for details.
It’s not too late to register for the trials. We will be taking same day entries. You just have to arrive early! See the North York Obedience Premium List 2018 for details
Missy Maher, our photographer, will be taking photos of dogs on the Saturday and Sunday. You do not have to be in the trial to come and get your dog’s photograph done! If you aren’t in the trial, just bring your dog in via the main entrance where Missy will be set up and avoid coming into the actual arena.
The purpose of this class is to prepare you and your dog to compete in the dog sport of obedience trialling.
In order to be successful, the following prerequisites are required: reliable “sit”, generally loose leash walking on handler’s left.
The content of each session will be chosen according to the needs of the students attending. Key elements will include:
Lessons will progress towards refining details of each exercise while increasing dog/handler connection and reliability despite distractions.
Students who are new to trialing will learn how to enter, participate and succeed at a trial. Helpful hints such as warm-up exercises, calming and motivating your dog will be covered.
For dog/handler teams ready to enter trials, particularly the NYOC Trial in June, there will be opportunities to work through all the exercises together in partial/full runs
Note: The exercises you’ll learn in this class (Loose Leash Heeling, Figure 8 Heeling, Standing still for Examination by Judge, Recalls, Sit/Stay, Down/Stay.) will also help you managing and enjoying your dog each day around the house, out walking, in social and public settings, vet visits etc.)
This class teaches you and your dog to negotiate a more challenging course than the Rally Beginner class and helps you move towards off leash work. Intermediate, Advanced and Excellent level exercises will be covered.
For instance, the class will include jumps and use signs such as: Halt – 90° Pivot Right- Halt; and Figure 8s with toys as distractions. Even if you never enter a trial, this class is a great way to interact with your dog and learn some fun moves that you can demonstrate to family and friends.
Prerequisite: Dogs and handlers must have earned a Rally Novice title or a Companion Dog Obedience title.
